John 1:1-2, 14 (ESV):
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God.
14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
Philippians 2:5-8 (ESV):
5 Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus,6 who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped,7 but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.
What must it have been like for Jesus to leave the throne room of heaven to be born of the Virgin Mary? Jesus, in all of His glory, could have come rightfully a king. He could have used His power and authority to accomplish anything He desired. He could have announced His coming with an angelic choir or a thundering voice. Instead, He chose humility. He chose to be born as a baby to experience everything in human form that we experience, including every trial and tribulation. Jesus led by example. What an example of humility and servanthood for us to follow!
