Matthew 5:13-15 (ESV):
13 “You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people’s feet.
14 “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.15 Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house.
Yesterday was Halloween, and our church hosts “Trunk or Treat.” It’s like a cross between Halloween and a tail gate party! I’m truly grateful for all of those who put so much effort into hosting the event for our community. Five hundred hot dogs were prepared, and last year, they were gone early. I suspect the same was true last night! I love our church because it does stand out as a light to the community.
Joni and I took Salina to “Trunk or Treat.” We are always so excited to get to visit with her and her family. Salina was born in the United States, but her family is from Nepal. They also have special celebrations or festivals during this time. The biggest is called Diwali or Deepavali, a festival of lights which symbolizes the victory of light over darkness in the Hindu faith. One day is spent honoring sibling relationships and letting brothers and sisters know they are loved. Part of our internship is learning about other faiths and cultures so that we can understand and love them better. We love Salina and her family, and we love their culture and food. We are blessed to know them!
