Ephesians 1:17 (NIV):

I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.

Part of knowing God better is to know Him through the vast and beautiful cultures He has created. With the Hila Sewing Project, we get to do just this. On Tuesday night we hosted the first Hila Celebration Dinner. Over 40 people came out to fellowship and gain understanding of each other’s culture. This night wouldn’t have been possible without the help of so many partner organizations and volunteers. Thank you to each of you!

In the pictures above you see:

  1. Cilantro being blended to put in yogurt. This yogurt sauce is wonderful on Afghani dishes such as Qabuli Palao (Afghan Lamb Pilaf). I got to help Shahida do this small part! I was excited!
  2. The dinner! In Afghani culture, Facebook is not an option, so to respect their concerns for security and privacy, we are not showing faces!
  3. Tea and snacks afterward at Shahida’s home. Tea is different in Middle Eastern cultures, and in my opinion-much better! Perhaps it’s because of the love that goes into making the tea and the fellowship that is always gathered around it.
