It’s hard to fathom that we are already over half-way through the year 2014! This year is truly flying past! Brad and I are delighted to report that his new mouthpiece for sleep apnea is highly effective! For the first time in several years, Brad is getting sound sleep at night. We even made it back to church Sunday. We tried a new church close to home and really enjoyed the service; we were welcomed by a friendly and loving congregation. We will see where the Lord continues to lead us. We have high hopes of returning again this Sunday!
Kathy and Morgan came to visit over the 4th of July weekend. We all enjoyed a minor league baseball game watching the Richmond Flying Squirrels play. The fireworks were awesome afterward! We were blessed to see the happy newlyweds so soon after the wedding, and we have plans to enjoy Thanksgiving as well this year!
We are looking forward to our daughter Fatimah’s return from the Middle East in August. We are very thankful for applications such as WhatsApp and Snapchat so that we can stay in communication with her half way around the world! We are continuing to learn more about her culture and traditions. This month for Muslims is a very special time of prayer and fasting called Ramadan. During the daylight hours fasting occurs, and then after the sun sets families gather together to eat and fellowship. Fatimah has enjoyed volunteering in her community and helping the poor, especially younger girls. They had a wonderful party for these young children with activities such as face painting. They brought the “nail salon” to these girls, and painted their nails in a variety of bright colors!
Work at World Horizons/Hillside Missions is going well. We are excited for our up and coming interns who will join our training program in September. We still have open slots, so if you happen to know anyone who is interested in missions, please refer them to our website where they can fill out an application. The website is http://reachthenations.org/internship/.
Our art gallery Edit been a huge success; the tradition of art as mission is now spreading among our teams on the field and we look forward to seeing new galleries open around the world!
Last, the new class of Perspectives on the World Christian Movement begins in September as well. We are looking forward to a busy month with the new interns arriving at Hillside coupled with this new Perspectives class. My roles on the team are serving as the registrar and a grader. If you’d like to read more about this awesome class, here’s the webiste: http://www.perspectives.org/.
Our prayer focus this month has been for those who have lost family members due to tragedies such as the war in Gaza, the kidnapping of the 300 Nigerian girls by Boko Haram, and the airline disasters. We are so thankful we have a wonderful God who brings comfort in the midst of disaster, and who will one day restore righteousness and peace on earth!
Thank you for your prayers and support of our ministry! Have a wonderful and blessed August! Until next time! 🙂
